Central Chapter

 

For some reason winter has decided to pay us a visit and it looks quite January-normal outside.  Even with the snow obscuring the view, it’s time to think about the 2012 riding season which will be upon us before we know it.
       
        At our last meeting, Road Captain, Al Berndt, passed around a calendar for members to register their rides.  If you didn’t have a ride in mind at the time, but want to lead one during the season, plan to attend the February meeting, or call Al at: 320-255-1538. As I mentioned in the last Newsletter, Gary/Carol Lauerman and Jim/Jenny Gasser will be leading a ride to San Antonio, TX in June.  I believe there are 10 bikes signed up so far.  If you have any questions about the trip or would like to sign up, you can contact Gary or Carol at: 320-558-6158.

        In other news, Honda is recalling 2001-2012 GL1800s.  It is my understanding that there is a problem with the secondary master cylinder which is part of the linked-breaking system.  If it fails, there is a possibility that the rear brake could still be partially engaged.  If you have a GL1800 and have not received a notice from Honda in the mail, you should contact a Honda dealer to have the braking system inspected.

        Make a note on your calendar for the 2012 Winter Mixer which will be hosted by the Little Falls chapter on February 25, 2012 at the Little Falls VFW.  There is more information and a sign-up sheet on the Wing’s website: www.mnwings.com.

        The International Motorcycle show will begin Friday, February 3 through Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the Minneapolis Convention Center which is located at 1301 Second Avenue South in Minneapolis.  The web site for the show is: www.motorcycleshows.com/minneapolis.

            The club calendar will again be offered for 2013.  As most of you know, the calendar features photos taken by members during the year. If possible, please remember to have a camera stashed in your bike at all times.  In addition to all of the great calendar photos one could accumulate over the year, there’s always a chance of spotting Elvis, Big Foot or a UFO somewhere out in the hinterland.  I have missed several UFO and Elvis photos over the years simply because I didn’t have my trusty Kodak with me.  What a shame!

        Our club will again be meeting for our winter dinners.  By the time this is published we well have had our February dinner.  This was held at the All American Burger restaurant in St. Joe.  I believe Annette Schueller set this one up.  If I’m in error, I will correct this in the next newsletter.  Our second dinner will be at 6:30PM February 29th at the Blue Moon restaurant in Becker.  Thanks to Lynn Berndt for setting this up.  The location for our March dinner has not been established.  Ideas anyone?  We will discuss this at or February meeting.
