Hope everyone has been able to get out for a ride once in while this month. So much is going on it’s hard to find time to get everything done. As Benjamin Franklin once said, nothing is certain but death and taxes – add work to that short list as it’ll be there waiting for you. Take the time to have some fun! Something new this year, Fuddruckers in St. Louis Park, will be having burgers or hot dogs for $5.00. This started June 7 and runs through September from 5:00 – 9:00 PM. This will not be on the ride schedule so jot it on your calendar as a reminder. The Ride for Kids will take place on July 18 in White Bear Lake. In keeping with compliance of the gambling rules, the $35 fund-raising amount will also receive a ticket for the motorcycle drawing. This is a change from previous years where the limit started at $300. For more information or to get a registration form call 800-253-6530 or log onto rideforkids.org. Dale’s Taco Run to Spirit Lake will take place July 31 and August 1. If interested in staying overnight call the Super 8 hotel in Jackson, MN (507-847-3498) for reservations. Jackson is about 20 miles from Lake Okoboji and has much more reasonable rates! Rich and Pat Hinchley’s dinner ride on July 24 will be taking us to Boxers BBQ (www.boxerbbq.com) in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We’ll be riding through lost hills on Saturday and stop by to see the freedom rock on the way home Sunday. There are 8 rooms blocked until June 30 @ Heartland Inn; mention MN Wings. Reservations can be made by calling 800-334-3277 ext 21 or visit web site councilbluffs@heartlandinns.com. The group will be leaving from Cenex in St. James at 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 24. There are various “bike night” events around the area
if you’re looking for someplace to go. Last reminder about the ‘Great Minnesota Get Together’ in Detroit Lake on August 13-15 – there’s still room at the American Legion campground @ 218-847-9621 or on-line @ www.countrycampground.org. Mention you’re with the MN Wings to be in the same camping area. Don’t wait until the last minute to make reservations! Update on the Hole in the Wall casino ride Warren scheduled for Labor Day weekend – September 4-6. There are 10 rooms available at a cost of $50/Friday night and $45/Saturday night. You must have a player’s card to get these prices. A card can be obtained before you check in at the hotel. Call 877-656-4333 and ask for Arlene on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday during the day. August 15th is the cut off date so if you’re even remotely thinking about going, get your reservation in now! If you have any other questions, contact Warren for more information. A suggestion was made to have me send out a ride reminder the day before a ride. I’ll try my best to do that, but won’t guarantee it’ll happen every week. You can print off a current ride schedule on the website so you will always be in the know! Upcoming dues: (June) John Landfair; Dale Ingersol; Jerry Fouquette;
Richar; Hinchley; Tom Hughes; Ronald Wilson – (July) Don Monson;
Randy Pieschke Reminder to Ron Knop, Mark Pentico, Archie Archuleta, Steve Fisher, Keith Schuft, May Randy Pederson, & Ervin Ohotto to pay your dues as soon as possible if you still plan to be members of the Midwest Wings Club. July birthdays: 5th: Ron Knop; 9th: Joni Ingersoll; 10th: Karen Brelje; 14th: Steve Brelje; 17th: Dave Gassman; 19th: Wayne Timm; 27th: Lorrie Weber. Wishing you many more and remember…the secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly and lie about your age!! June tidbit: Every time you lick a stamp, you’re consuming 1/10 of a calorie. After learning this, I have since switched to the self-adhesive kind. You now know my most intimate diet secret! ;-) Happy 4th of July everyone! For most, it will be a day off from work, but more importantly is commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain some 234 years ago. Red, white and blue will be the most seen colors on this day; however all of us should be showing our pride by displaying the American flag ALL 365 days of the year! Enjoy your summer rides and keep the rubber side down! Jan Johnson, Club Secretary
